Yes and no. Although studies have show candy to be addictive, there are some plus sides to it. For example, according to Sylvia Booth Hubbard on NewsMax Health, candy can be good for you! Eating a bar of chocolate a week can reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke by 39%. Not only can it help with the heart, but it also can work as an antidepressant. A British study found that chocolate can work better at suppressing coughs than cough medicine. But enough about chocolate. Let’s get on to candy. During a study from the Harvard School of Public Health, they found out that people who eat candy several times a month, tend to live longer than people who don’t. When I was younger, my teachers always used to give us mints whenever we were taking tests. I know now why: they help with concentration! Mints can also help with digestion. Specifically peppermints with peppermint extract. Now I’m not sure if gum is candy, but for anyone who likes to chomp on a piece here and there I thought that I might mention that chewing gum can reduce stress!

Now to get to the other side of the argument. At the rate that I eat candy, it probably isn’t as healthy as I explained above. I will argue that I swim every day for almost two hours and I eat fruit quite a bit. My mom also makes sure that I eat healthy during dinner and tries to make sure I don’t eat any junk food as much as possible. So if you put it like that, then you could say that I balance my candy intake with a good amount of exercise and healthy foods.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: How much candy do you eat on average?
